Marianne Nightingale

Marianne is one of the founding members of NWAG .

After a successful career with textiles as a designer of One-Off clothes and one of the few artists to have mastered the ancient art of marbling (on silk and leather not paper), a trip to India in 1996 changed Marianne’s life.

After seeing elephants and tigers in stunning areas that are their natural habitat, Marianne decided that she wanted to devote her life to the painting wildlife. Because of her experience with textiles, the majority of her pieces are painted on silk, leather or linen, giving an unique style and attention to detail to create realistic images.

She has traveled extensively in India, Sri Lanka and Borneo to see endangered animals and raise awareness through work with conservation charities. Her most personal conservation challenge was to financially support an orphaned baby elephant in Sri Lanka who has now returned to the wild.  As her sole foster-parent Marianne named the elephant Florence - what else could it be!
