Jan is predominantly a self-taught artist who likes to paint in watercolour, ink, oil and acrylic. She also enjoys very detailed pencil and pastel work. She spends many hours daily on extensive local wild marshes with binoculars, camera and dog close to hand, trying to capture images of wildlife to fuel her passion for painting – verging on an obsession!

Spending so much time in the great outdoors she feels sharpens the senses and contributes to making a person much more perceptive in observing wildlife and their surroundings. To this end she also travels regularly to the remotest parts of north-west Scotland and on annual life-changing camping safaris to Botswana and South Africa in the company of like-minded artists and photographers, not only for the amazing wildlife photo opportunities, but to feel much closer to nature on such adventures.

Jan helps to capture injured and sick seals for the rescue and rehabilitation centre at Winterton-on-Sea and has donated paintings and prints in their support.

Jan has also donated a painting to support the Suffolk Horse Society and is delighted to have been chosen for their Christmas card selection. She has undertaken commissions ranging from pet portraits, trawlers and motor bikes to private aeroplanes.
